2021 National Night Out
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Firefighter/EMT Christopher Harris
August 7, 2021

On August 3, 2021, the fire company sent Engine 81 and Rescue Squad 8 to the square in Union Bridge to support the "National Night Out" campaign held across the nation.

"National Night Out" Day is held on the first Tuesday in August and promotes police-community partnerships in neighborhoods across the country. The event focuses on the community and raising awareness through camaraderie. By improving area relationships, the hope is to make our neighborhoods safer.

Shining a spotlight on community police programs, "National Night Out" increases connections between those who serve and their neighborhoods. Through a variety of programs designed to educate and improve relationships, dialogues open. Some of these programs include:

Drug prevention, Town Watch, Neighborhood Watch and other anti-watch programs.

Along with police and fire department vehicles, a bouncy house was present for the kids' enjoyment, popcorn and beverages; and other organizations including the US Army Reserves, all providing literature and other information about community awareness. The Mayor, Town Council and other town employees also were present to support our community and the police.
