| This past weekend, the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, was held to pay tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty. The names of 105 firefighters were added to the memorial this year, including active military firefighters. A total of 80 firefighters from 32 states died in 2009. The memorial was held on October 3rd at the National Fire Academy in Emmittsburg, MD, the location of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
On September 30, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. This special tribute, leading up to the 2010 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, was held to honor military firefighters who died while performing firefighting duties from 1981 to 2009.
Members from the Union Bridge Fire Company annually attend this highly emotional event, to pay tribute to our brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties to protect life, property and the environment. We feel that it is the least we can do to honor them, their families and their friends.
The Officers and members of the Union Bridge Fire Company, respectfully extend our heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to the families and departments who have lost a loved one or colleague.
