| Although this story doesn't impact our community directly, the chain of events to help a fire department in need, started right here in Union Bridge. After receiving a comment in our 'Guestbook' from a department in Alabama, it seems that one or more of our members, helped a distant fire department get on track to purchase a much needed Tanker near Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Chief Gaston Wilson, Jr., of the Nichol VFD, said that while on a trip to see family in Maryland, he had stopped by the fire station just to visit and while talking to personnel in the station, was advised of firefighter assistance grants through the federal government. When he returned to Alabama, his department placed a grant request for a new tanker and they won the grant. The Nichol Volunteer Fire Department secured a $125,000 federal grant to purchase the Tanker.
Congradulations Chief and members of the Nichol VFD. We hope that your new Tanker will provide many safe years of operation to you and your community. We are happy that the advice you took home was helpful. |
