Box 10-14. On New Years Eve at 19:17 hrs, Box 10-14 was dispatched for a building fire with multiple exposures at 3303 Hooper Road. First arriving and Duty 10 (M. Moser) arrived, reporting a 30' x 40' shed/garage, well involved. Engine 142 and E101 reported back the lane and 'supply line' was laid by Engine 142. As other units arrived, "Hooper Road Command" advised that there were minor explosions caused by propane tanks and that fire was through the roof. "Command" then advised that the fire would be fought "Defensively".
'Water Supply' was established while other firefighters reported back the lane to assist with extinguishment and overhaul. Crews worked for nearly 2 1/2 hours removing debris and extinguishing the remaining flames. All Station 8 units finally left the scene at 21:50 hours.
The building was a multi-use structure with a wood shop, metal shop and garage area. Firefighters were able to remove and save, two wood chippers from a lean-to type roof attached to the side of the burning structure, however, the rest of the structure and it's contents were a total loss. Despite the explosions and heavy fire conditions, no other structures on the property were damaged. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident and there were no injuries reported.
