By Lieutenant 8-2 Christopher Harris
September 4, 2012

It is with profound and deep regret, that the Union Bridge Fire Company announces the loss of 'Inactive Member' Claude Edward Curfman, Jr. on Friday, August 31, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Better known as "Ed", he was born on November 23, 1945. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Curfman and brother Gene Curfman, an "Active Lifetime Member" of our organization. He was predeceased by his father, Claude E. Curfman, Sr., mother, Kathleen Curfman and sister, Kathy Sue Curfman.

"Ed" was first a member of the New Windsor Fire Company. He became a member of our company on March 5, 1967, as a firefighter and for many years, served as one of our "Fire Police". He also served our fire company and the ladies auxiliary by helping with fundraisers. On March 2, 1992, he became an "Inactive Member".

While he wasn't volunteering, "Ed" first worked for the Carroll County Public School system as a janitor for 6 years before being hired by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in 1977. There, he worked in the jail for many years before serving as a road patrol deputy. After an on-duty vehicle collision, he served at the county courts before retiring in 1994. His last place of employment was at Walmart, where he worked for 6 years.

The Viewing and Funeral will be held at Hartzlers Funeral Home on E. Broadway in Union Bridge and he will be buried at the Lutheran Cemetary in Uniontown.

Viewing: Friday, 9/7/12, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM with a combined UBFC/NWFC Memorial Service at 8:45PM.

Funeral: Saturday, 9/8/12 at 10:30 AM

The officers and members of the Union Bridge Fire Company express our deepest sympathy to his family.
