Frederick County Box 17-9 sounded at 09:49hrs with Carroll County units from Union Bridge, New Windsor and Taneytown being dispatched. The dispatch was for a deck fire in the 10300 Block of Fountain School Road.
First arriving Frederick County Engine 171 advised smoke coming from the "Bravo" side of a 1 story, single family structure and that no line was laid since the house set next to the road. Engine 171's crew stretched the initial attack line to the "Bravo" side for fire extinguishment. Chief 17-1 took command and second arriving Engine 81 (Chief Green) was assigned with "Division 1" and tasked with checking the interior for extension on the first floor and the attic. Carroll Co. Engine 101 was sent to the basement to check for extension.
As units were responding, Rescue Squad 8 and Paramedic 89 were dispatched to complete the assignment.
After a quick fire knock-down and a rapid recon of the interior (where only smoke was found), all units not already on the scene were reduced to a non-emergency response.
A Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan was placed in-service to remove smoke from the interior and a Frederick County Fire Marshal was requested. Command held Station 17 units and placed the rest of the assignment in-service about 30 minutes after the dispatch. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the exterior of the house. The Frederick County Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
