Single Vehicle MVC

By Lieutenant 8-2 Christopher Harris
July 2, 2012

At 9:05 AM, Rescue Alarm 8-1 was alerted by "Carroll" 911 for a Motor Vehicle Collision in the 5900 block of Middleburg Road. Paramedic 89 was already on the road returning from another call and responded immediately upon dispatch. Rescue Squad 8 and Engine 81 also responded soon after dispatch.

Upon arrival of Rescue Squad 8, Chief 8 (Green) advised of the single vehicle into a pole and a perimeter was established due to wires and the poles cross-arms hanging over the roadway, as the pole had been snapped in half by the collision. The driver of the vehicle had self extricated and was standing along the road with a Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy. Paramedic 89 arrived right behind the Rescue Squad and began evaluating the patient.

Engine 81 arrived and closed down Middleburg Road at Bucher John Road and Chief 8-1 (Cartwright) arrived from the other side of the incident and shut down Middleburg Road on that side of the scene. Potomac Edison was advised of the situation and Carroll County Road Department was requested to close Middleburg Road from Bucher John Road to Crouse Mill Road until the pole and wires could be repaired.

Paramedic 89 transported the driver of the vehicle to Carroll Hospital Center, Priority 3 and after the Carroll County Roads crews were on scene, all other Station 8 units cleared the incident. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

Units: RS-8, E-81, PM-89, U-8, Chief 8-1

Mutual Aid: Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Carroll County Road Department.
