By Captain 8 Steve Keeney
October 30, 2011

At 11:08 AM, Rescue Squad 8 was dispatched to assist New Windsor (10) for a report of a motor vehicle collision with entrapment at the intersection of Route 31 and Church Street, in front of the 7-11. Medic 109 arrived first and found a two vehicle collision with one vehicle on its side. They also confirmed that one occupant was confined in the vehicle.

Chief 10 (T. Coe), established 'Route 31 Command' and requested a second ambulance, at which time, Paramedic 89 was dispatched. Rescue Squad 8 arrived and assisted Station 10 crews in the completion of stabilization. The winch from the Rescue Squad was utilized with a "tie back" of the car on its side and then assisted Engine 102's crew with extrication of the occupant by "flapping the roof".

With the combined efforts of both crews from New Windsor and Union Bridge, the extrication was completed in 15 minutes. Medic 109 treated and transported one patient to Shock Trauma by ground. Paramedic 89 transported one patient to Carroll Hospital Center.

Both Company's made a great team effort to properly and safely complete all of the tasks required for a successful operation. For more information, visit the New Windsor Fire Company website.
