Lightning Strike Causes House Fire

Frederick County Box 17-2. As a severe group of thunderstorms passed through the Libertytown and Johnsville area of Frederick County, a house was struck by lightning in the 9700 block of Green Valley Road, just north of Libertytown.

At 1315 hours, Station 8 was dispatched to assist on the first alarm assignment. While enroute with Engine/Tanker 84, FC Chief 17 arrived to report heavy smoke showing with visible fire from the second floor. FC Engine 171 arrived and began an aggressive interior attack. FC Tanker 9 and FC Truck 41 arrived soon after, while FC Engine 94, with Engine/Tanker 84's crew, laid 1000 feet of supply line from Green Valley Road to the house.

The fire was extinguished by FC Engine 171 and FC Truck 41's crew quickly. As additional crews arrived, overhaul was conducted and the fire was under control by 1345 hours. Units cleared the scene by 1500 hours with no injuries reported.
