The 'November 2010' issue of Firehouse Magazine, includes a 'Close Calls' article entitled "Children Reported Trapped in a House - Part 1" by William Goldfeder, a contributing editor to the magazine. The article talks about an incident where a Union Bridge Firefighter was injured during a fire in a mobile home in Frederick County (See UBFC news story - 8/16/30 - Mobile Home Fire in Frederick County). The article is part of a short series about the incident, first hand accounts from those on the scene, an account by the firefighter that was injured and the outcome of the incident.

William Goldfeder, EFO (Executive Fire Officer), is a 33 year veteran of the fire service and is a Deputy Chief with the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department in Ohio. He has been a chief officer since 1982 and is a past commissioner with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. He is an active writer, speaker and instructor on fire service operational issues. He, along with Gordon Graham, host a free and non-commercial firefighter safety and survival website at www.FirefighterCloseCalls.com. He is also considered a highly respected member of the fire service nationally.

Firefighter Jed Gregory received burns during the incident. He and another Union Bridge Firefighter, Cody Isanogle, entered a burning mobile home with reported "children trapped" in an attempt to find the children. As they began their search, the area they were in, flashed over, forcing them to make a hasty retreat. Firefighter Gregory was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital and released later that evening with first and second degree burns to different area's on his body. His personal protective equipment was totally destroyed, including his radio, SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), SCBA facepiece, coat, pants, gloves, helmet and hood. As other firefighters continued to battle the fire, it was determined that the children were not at home at the time of the fire. Firefighter Gregory has recovered from his burns and continues to be an active member with the Union Bridge Fire Company.
