Passing of Life Member George W. Keeney

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lifetime Member George W. Keeney. He became a member of our fire company in 1959 and had served as a driver of the fire apparatus, fire officer or in administrative offices during his active service.

The officers and members of the Union Bridge Fire Company, Inc. extend our heartfelt condolences to the Keeney Family.

A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge on Sunday, January 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Fire Department Memorial Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 16 at 1 p.m.; Deacon Charles Barnhart will officiate. Interment will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery, Woodsboro.

OBITUARY:

George Washington Keeney Jr., age 82, of Union Bridge, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 at Genesis-Gettysburg Center, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 20, 1940 in Frederick, he was the son of the late George W. Keeney Sr. and Lillian May Stern Keeney. He was the husband of Kathy L. Black Keeney, who predeceased him in 1994. He is survived by his children, George W. Keeney III and wife Amy of Westminster, Ryan D. Keeney of Fairfield, PA, Kathy "Kricket" Hahn of New Oxford, PA; grandchildren, Shane Haley, Steven Keeney, Kaden Keeney, Jordan and James Hahn, Kiyra Keeney, Lillian Hahn, Alexis Jackson and Brian James; siblings, Edna "Dickie" Harrison of Frederick and John Keeney of Union Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Bill, Katherine, Helen, Gladys, Pauline and Elmer "Sug". George was a 1958 graduate of Frederick High School and retired from Lehigh Cement Co. after working for more than 30 years. He was a lifelong member of Union Bridge Vol. Fire Dept. and an honorary member of New Midway Vol. Fire Dept. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Roxy. A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. Deacon Charles Barnhart will officiate.
