By Firefighter/EMT Christopher Harris
January 6, 2022

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard L. Boone, passionately known as "Dicky" to all of us at the fire house; on Thursday, January 6, 2022. He was 83 years old. He was employed and retired from the "Lehigh Portland Cement Company".

Dicky became a member of the Union Bridge Fire Company in July of 1959. He was an Active Honorary Lifetime Member. For many years, he served the fire company responding to calls, even serving as one of our Assistant Chief's for several years in the late 60's, early 70's. He stopped responding on calls in the early 90's, but continued his service to the company by helping with fundraisers and performing administrative duties.

He was the chairman of the "Food Stand" during our carnival for several decades. He served as a member of the "Executive Board" (now the Board of Directors) for many years; as a "Trustee" for many years; and was the chairman of the "Grounds Committee" for over a decade in the 70's and 80's.

Dicky was a man who wore many hats and held this fire company close to his heart. During the week, he would help clean-up and set-up the Activities Center/Social Hall for events; and was a fixture in the dish washing area during fundraising events like the monthly public breakfasts. He attended nearly every company business meeting since he became a member as well.

*UPDATE* as of 1/7/22 (6:00 PM)

Services for Dicky are as follows:

The viewing and service will be held at the Union Bridge Fire Company Activities Center/Social Hall on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Family Only from 8:00 am to 8:30 am.

The family will receive friends from 8:30 am to 11:00 am.

A Service will be held at 11:00 am being officiated by Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr., followed by internment at the Mountain View Cemetery on S. Main Street in Union Bridge.

After the cemetery service; family and friends are invited back to the Activities Center/Social Hall for refreshments.

Masks and Social Distancing are required while in the building.

Members of the fire service may and are recommended to wear uniforms; and mourning bands for badges are authorized.

Words in this story can't express how deeply Dicky will be missed for all the 'behind the scenes' work he did for this fire company.

"We'll do our best to keep things going Bunky!"

So proud of my Pap, he loved the fire hall and the community of Union Bridge. Thank you so much for honoring him.
