Structure Box 8 sounded at 6:59 AM bringing volunteers from Union Bridge and New Windsor to 21 North Main Street in Union Bridge this morning. Lt. 8-2 (C. Harris) arrived to find a 2 story brick duplex, in the downtown area, with nothing showing. Upon approaching the structure, he confirmed that everyone was out of the structure and that smoke was evident inside. Upon further investigation, he found a stove in the kitchen issuing heavy smoke with no structural involvement. Lt. 8-2 established 'Main Street Command" and directed first arriving Engine 81's crew to extinguish the confined fire. Rescue Squad 8's crew established ventilation and secured the utilities.

Just before the arrival of New Windsor units, 'Main Street Command' placed the fire under control and held just the Union Bridge units on the scene. Crew's from Engine 81, Rescue Squad 8 and Engine/Tanker 82 continued ventilation procedures, removed the stove and removed water from the structure that was used to extinguish the small fire.

The stove fire occurred due to large amounts of food deposits around the heating element of the stove. The stove was destroyed, but there was no structural damage to the duplex. The resident and family members at the scene, were advised that additional clean-up and odor removal would be needed before inhabiting the structure again.

After units were on the scene for 45 minutes, 'Main Street Command' was terminated and units went in-service.
