By Assistant Chief Christopher Harris
February 23, 2017

Box 10-16. At 1749 hrs., Rescue Squad 8 was dispatched to assist Station 10 for a "MVC with Entrapment" at Route 31 and Tibbetts Lane, just east of New Windsor. Chief 10 (Coe) was travelling on Route 31 at the time and arrived within a minute, to find a 2 vehicle collision with one off the road and in a ditch, on its roof. After a quick triage of the scene, a total of 6 were found injured and 2 were trapped in the overturned vehicle. Chief 10 established command and requested three additional ambulances. Paramedic 89 was then dispatched to assist.

The crews from New Windsor began the process of extrication of the victims on the overturned vehicle. Rescue Squad 8 was given instructions to prepare for an air bag operation while enroute, but upon arrival, the crew was given direction to assist New Windsor personnel with the current operation and assisted with vehicle stabilization. Both patients extricated in 15 minutes.

A total of 5 patients with minor injuries were transported to Carroll Hospital Center and 1 patient was transported by ground to Shock Trauma. After assisting New Windsor with equipment and tool clean-up, Rescue Squad 8 returned to service at 18:32 hrs. New Windsor units operated for 50 minutes before the scene was turned over to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

On-Scene Units: Paramedic 109, Rescue-Engine 102, Engine 101, Utility 10, Utility 10-1 (New Windsor); Rescue Squad 8, Paramedic 89 (Union Bridge); Paramedic 37, Paramedic 39 (Westminster), Carroll County Sheriff's Office
