Structure Fire in Keysville

By Captain Christopher Harris
May 30, 2016

Box 5-12. At 19:20 hrs, Carroll County 911 received a call for a structure fire at 2120 Keysville/Frederick Road. The caller advised that both smoke and fire were visible from a non-residential structure and that the building was almost fully engulfed. Units from both Carroll and Frederick Counties were dispatched to the incident.

Medic 58 from Taneytown was the first to arrive, confirming heavy fire showing. Command Support 8 (Chief Chad Green) arrived at the same time advising that a garage was well involved with several exposures and Engine 81 arrived just behind CS8 to begin fire attack. A 2" Heavy Attack Line was placed into service immediately with an 1 3/4" Attack Line pulled as a backup and exposure line. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down. Chief Green also established "Keysville Road Command" and assigned Frederick County Chief 13-2 as "Water Supply".

As additional units arrived, crews began checking for extension into the exposures, which included a cabinet making shop, dust collection building, a lumber supply building and two other out-buildings. In total, a garage, used as a private body shop, the dust collection building and another out-building were a total loss. The other buildings received minor heat damage.

The fire was deemed "Under Control" at 19:54 hrs by "Keysville Road Command". Firefighters remained on the scene for about another 2 hours to insure that "hot-spots" were extinguished by removing debris and using 'Class A' foam.

Station 8 units cleared the scene by 21:45 hrs. No injuries were reported and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident.

Station 8 Units: E-81, CS-8, ET-84

Other Units: L-5, ET-54, E-52, M-58 (Taneytown), FCET-134, FCE-132, FCE133 (Rocky Ridge), FCE-94, FCTa-9 (New Midway), E112, B-115 (Harney), B-105 (New Windsor), FM-36 (MSFMO)

Thanks to New Windsor for covering our station during the incident.
