Station 8 was dispatched at 2:51 for a MVC involving a pedestrian on Route 75 at Shepard's Mill Road. PM-89 was first to arrive to find an adult male in the middle of the road on Route 75. As RS-8 and E-81 arrived on location and blocked all travel lanes, the paramedic advised the victim was mortally injured.
Apparently, a tractor-trailer turning right onto Route 75 from Shepard's Mill Road, collided with a bicyclist travelling on Route 75. The Maryland State Police and Carroll County Sheriffs Department were on scene within minutes. Chief 8-1 (M. Cartwright) arrived and assumed Route 75 Command. He immediately requested assistance from the State Highway Administration and the Carroll Roads Department to shut-down traffic at the nearest intersections away from the scene.
Units remained on location for over an hour, assisting with traffic control while the MSP conducted an investigation of the collision. As of this time, the MSP is continuing to investigate the incident.
