Box 8-1. At 0213 hours, Station 8 units were dispatched for a MVC in the 6000 block of Middleburg Road, in Middleburg. While enroute, units were advised that the incident was located on a use-and-common farm lane (Red Cedar Farm), just off of Middleburg Road. Paramedic 89 was first to arrive and after speaking with people at the scene, located the vehicle and one patient behind a hedge row, obscured from view.

As other units arrived, Paramedic 89 determined that the vehicle had 'rolled-over' and that there was a strong possibility of "ejection". Rescue Squad 8 arrived and Lieutenant C. Green (LT 8-3) assumed "Middleburg Road Command". Maryland State Police Aviation was immediately requested moments of the arrival of units. The patient was quickly loaded into Paramedic 89 for treatment and Engine 81 was assigned to establish a Landing Zone (LZ) adjacent to the scene.

The patient was transported by MSP "Trooper 3" to Shock Trauma, Priority 2/Category B. Firefighters and police on the scene searched for other possible patients around the area after it was determined that other people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. MSP ground patrol units requested a second MSP Trooper for FLIR (infrared) operations, but was later cancelled due to ETA and the use of thermal imaging cameras by fire personnel.

It was not determined how many other occupants were in the vehicle, but no other patients found. The vehicle appeared to have struck an electric/telephone pole, struck the edge of a driveway and then rolled-over through a hedge row before coming to rest. Neighbors reported multiple vehicles had left the scene just prior to the arrival of emergency units. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. Station 8 units cleared the scene about 1 hour after dispatch.

Units: PM-89, RS-8, E-81, Chief 8-1

Mutual Aid: Carroll Co. Sheriff's, Maryland State Police (Aviation: Trooper 3) and patrol units, Taneytown Police
